Nitinat
Lake
Nitinat Lake is a large tidal lake located 70 km southwest of Cowichan
Lake.
Access from the west end of Cowichan
Lake is via Nitinat Main and South Main to the north shore of
the lake.
Access from Port
Alberni is on the Bamfield road and South Main.
Size:
Over 20 km in length and more than a kilometre wide

Fish Found: Cutthroat Trout (Lake and sea run), Chinook Salmon,
Coho Salmon, Chum Salmon
Best Fishing: April to June, September to October
Facilities: Boat Launch, Campsites
Nearest Lake: Hitchie Lake
Nearest Park: Carmanah
Walbran Provincial Park
Additional Info: Fishing restrictions apply. The challenging
waters and demanding portages of Hobiton, Tsusiat and Nitinat Lakes,
which form the Nitinat
Triangle, have become one the most popular canoe routes on Vancouver
Island - not for the faint of heart!
Nitinat Lake is a windsurfer's paradise, but the same strong winds,
usually in the afternoon, demand caution from boaters.
