Victoria Airport (YYJ)

Victoria International Airport viewed across Saanich Inlet from Malahat Drive
Victoria International Airport is located north of Victoria on beautiful Vancouver Island. The Capital of British Columbia, Victoria is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, with over 1.5 million passengers passing through the airport annually.

The Victoria Airport Authority manages the safe and secure operations of the Victoria International Airport on behalf of the surrounding communities. The Airport is home to scheduled and charter airlines, flying schools, air freight and courier services, fuel dealers, aircraft maintenance facilities and Fixed Base Operators.

Concessions in the Air Terminal Building include a gift shop, newsstand, restaurant, and foreign exchange bureau. A total of 86.06 hectares are dedicated to recreational purposes, including a 5-diamond baseball facility. Many high tech, manufacturing and industrial businesses have made their headquarters at Victoria International Airport. The Air Terminal Building doors open at 3:30am and close at 1:00am.

The Red Coats provide invaluable assistance to the travelling public and visitors by answering questions and providing assistance wherever they can. Our friendly volunteers can be found at the Information Desk located across from the rental car counters in the arrivals area. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Sundays 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Passenger Services
All telephones have heightened transmission capabilities for the hearing impaired. Our sit down telephones provide additional privacy and have data ports to accommodate lap top computers. Two bank machines are available for that last minute cash requirement, and a parent's room for some quiet time. The passenger departure lounge also offers a business work station and Airside Cafe.

ICE International Currency Exchange provides Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, and Phone Cards. Hours of Operation are Daily 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (250) 656-1266.

All on-airport rental car company counters are located in the Arrivals area directly across from the Information Desk. Victoria International Airport is served by taxi and shuttle bus services.

  • McTavish Interchange: Visitors arriving in Victoria by air will be involuntarily treated to Victoria's newest and most challenging amusement park. Completed in 2011, and quietly opened without fanfare - no politician claimed ownership of this one - the McTavish Interchange will challenge the most alert of drivers, so be prepared for the ride. If you don't want to spend your first day in Victoria going round in circles, a Video Animation produced by the BC Ministry of Transportation demonstrates how to navigate the McTavish Road Interchange from the various approaches. The need for the video, and the politicians doing their best 'speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil', monkey impression, is evidence enough that this doozie is no ordinary interchange. Good luck, and have fun.
